Cape May and the US Northeast  ·  November to December 2024  ·  Mass sighting · United States  ·  Added 2026-06-11

The footage: The New Jersey Drone Flap — Cape May and the US Northeast, November to December 2024. Disputed. A counter-explanation or official finding exists but does not close the case.

For two months at the end of 2024, much of the northeastern United States looked up and saw drones. Tens of thousands of reports flooded in, four federal agencies reviewed more than five thousand of them, and the official answer, nothing anomalous, satisfied almost nobody.

What did witnesses see at Cape May and the US Northeast?

Clusters of red, green and white lights moving at night. Tens of thousands of public reports came in over several weeks during the largest drone-sighting wave in recent memory.

What is the official explanation?

A joint DHS, FBI, FAA and DoD statement said that after reviewing more than 5,000 reports they found nothing anomalous, attributing the sightings to lawful aircraft, hobbyist drones, and misidentified stars.

What did the witnesses think it was?

Much of the public and some officials believed they were watching coordinated craft and were frustrated by what they saw as an incomplete explanation.

Is the New Jersey Drone Flap real? The two-pass assessment

The red/green/white cluster is exactly aircraft navigation lighting, so the debunk does show its method and largely holds for the imagery. The honest other half is the documented public-trust gap.
